On Saturday August 23, 2008 at 8:00 pm the final concert known as "An Evening
of 20th Century Music" will be presented in the Lazzara Theater at UNF.
The concert is FREE and donations will be accepted. Since this money will
go to Percussion Scholarships, bring those big bills.
The concert is hosted and performed throughout by Charlotte Mabrey.
The first 500 guest will receive the traditional cheap yet fabulous gift.
This final concert will feature many outstanding performers from the area
and beyond.
Opening the concert is an audience participation piece, "Cross" by Eugene
Novoteny. It calls for a soloist, Ms. Mabrey and as many hand clappers that the
stage will hold. All those interested brush up on those rhythm reading skills
as there will be a short rehearsal backstage run by the UNF Percussion Ensemble.
Following 'Cross" is a marimba solo, "Memories of the Seashore" by Keiko Abe.
This solo will be played by Mabrey and has a long history associated with it and
this annual concert.
Greg Isabelle will join Charlotte in a rocking percussion duet by Dave Hollinden.
The duet sounds like two drum set players doing a battle of the bands. Great writing
for all percussion instruments.
"Wooden
Music" by Rich O'Meara will feature Lee Hunter and Charlotte in a piece that fully
explores the sounds of traditional marimba writing. Styles utilized by the composer
include minimalism, jazz and contrapuntal writings.
UNF graduate Brad Hirsch will travel all the way from Oregon to perform a
steel pan piece with marimba accompaniment. It is quite an honor to have Brad
on this final program.
The ever popular, " Stubernic" by Mark Ford will be played by recent UNF graduates
Destiny Guerra and Casey Dodd. These New York bound musicians are in town just
long enough to say good bye.
Robert Arleigh White will join Charlotte in a look back and forward in a combination
of old and new works. Better dust off those chain saws as the presentation will
go all the way back to our roots.
Rounding out the program will be the ever popular," Rockin Rickey Rocket".
The UNF Percussion Ensembles pulls this one off as Charlotte tries to keep up
in a wild drum set solo.
The concert is presented by both the UNF Music Department and is funded by
UN Student Government.
Please come out and send this annual event off in style. Everyone is welcome.
